The school that I'm looking at give Wing Chun and Hung Gar classes. Both sound great, but I'm having trouble picking one. It's a really good school. One of the best in my area so I really want to go there, but I can't do both. Just don't have the time.
I know every martial art is good in it's own way, but can you guys please explain some certain characteristics of the two so I can have an easier time chosing.
All I really know is that Hung Gar is more aggressive than Wing Chun. Thanks!
Wing Chun or Hung Gar???
i have trained kung fu since 1974.
i started TKD in 1972
hung gar is good and strong, but there are too many forms to learn, and too many weapons...and the moves are NOT the same for each weapon.
wing chun is more "mother moves" the inner core of all moves, regardless of the hand positions , found in hung gar, like tiger, snake, monkey, etc...
you are MUCH better off with wing chun.
and i trained with Wan Kui...one of Bruce Lees 5 elders
Reply:my opinion is Wing Chun is better.. but depends on who is teaching it. Report It
Reply:The Hung Gar is more complicated with more movements. The wing chun system is more effective and faster than Hung Gar. In WC you punch straight and you don't waste time with pointless movements. For more information about WC i propose to you the following site http://www.wing-chun.ws Report It
Reply:Wing Chun is almost all hands and is very good at getting you fast hands in a very close contact situation. Only low kicks to pull person off balance or break knees and ankles.
Hung Gar is more acrobatic with jumps and kicks as well as hands. Weapons also.
Which do you prefer?
Reply:I Studied both systems .Depending on your body and how it works,is how you have to approach this .Hung gar is a tiger crane based system that is powerful and employs a lot of low stances,if you have weak legs you will have a problem. You also need a good center with good balance.Wing chun is more for close quarter combat and is good in using your oppents force and size against them.It also employs a lot of of trapping techniques
