Whats the difference and similarity between Wing Chun, Hung Gar and Choi Lei Fut?

I know they are given the name "The Three Great Southern Martial Art Schools of the South", but whats so great about them.

Whats the difference and similarity between Wing Chun, Hung Gar and Choi Lei Fut?
WING CHUN developed by a female buhdist nun.Upright fast deceptive close in fighting.

HUNG GAR a mixing of the technique of 2 monks MASTER HUNG MASTER GAR.The HUNG style is thought to be the forerunner of all hard styles.Powerful low to the ground immovable close in.

CHOI LAI FUT the result of the students of 3 monks combining their knowledge into one method.Higher stances than the muscular HUNG GAR a "long hand" style meaning they preferred kicking range methods but had close in methods also.

The term MASTER applied to these men was not in reference to their skills as fighters as all monks were called MASTER except novice monks whether they had martial skills or not.

A more common term for martial arts teachers in ancient china was father and advanced students the title uncle.
Reply:I don't know alot about these 3 styles but I can tell you that Wing Chun is the most modern one probably. Hung gar is said to be a low stance fighting style. Choy Li Fut I know little of.
Reply:All 3 are S Chinese, but focus on differing aspects.

Choy Li Fut is as many chinese systems, having many doors. San Soo is one of them. Also called the 5 family art Tsoi ( Choy ) Li Ho Fut Hung Ga aka Choy Li Fut Wu Shu San Soo . The late Grand Master Jimi H. Woo brought this system from china to america, pretty cool history, and very obscure as to all the facts., making it fun to explore to all historians.

Wing Chun is the name of a shaolin nun's student whom learnt shaolin boxing, which this nun had refined to use speed over power making it more effective for a female. And also is the base system of Bruce Lee.
Reply:I think they are called that because they are three styles that are VERY popular in southern china, not necessarily because they are great, not that i'm knocking anyones martial art or anything.
Reply:I agree they're called that because of their popularity, not becuase they're the purest lineages dating back to the Bodhidharma. Similarly, they all use forms, equipment, breathing exercises, though the forms and equipment in each is different. (iron rings, or wall pads)

Reply:Wing Chun was invented by a woman Ng Mui. It is simple and efficient and can be learned quickly. Hung Gar is an eclectic blend of several styles. Sifu Hung was a master of Shaolin Tiger, and his wife was in Shaolin Crane. He combined these styles plus some moves from the other 3 shaolin Animal styles: Leopard, Dragon and Serpent. It also has some of the 5 Element Fist of Hsing-I. It is a versatile style that takes longer to learn than Wing Chun. Hung Gar and Choi Li Fut are 2 of 5 Shaolin family styles. As you see, there are many more than 3 Southern styles. Hung Gar combines 5 Buddhist Shaolin Animals with Taoist 5 Element fist. There are also unorthodox styles, e.g. Wing Chun and Drunken and unorthodox animal styles, e.g. Mantis, Meng, Snake and Monkey. There are 5 esoteric venoms styles too, but it is difficult to find taechers. The 5 Venoms are Toad, Centipede, Scorpion, Snake and Spider. i do not see that any is grater than the others, unless it due to being more commonly taught, and that says little about true greatness. Find the best for you. That is what is great.
