If you cannot locate a school near your area, I would begin by seeking out the closest, most reputable instructor that you can find and make a visit to their class/school. Introduce yourself to the instructor and tell them of your situation and the distance issue. With any luck, the instructor will allow you to train and will give you enough information so that you can spend some quality time at home working the material that you learned and then each time you get a chance, pay another visit to this instructor.
There is no replacement for real teaching: books, videos, online material, these are all very good tools but these alone will never get you to become a formidable exponent of any martial art.
What is the best way to study Wing Chun without a local school or instructor?
if your not a dumbass and can view yourself objectively
Randy williams has a GREAT book and video set.
It shows everything about the style.
Even has a teaching manual.
Its legitimate too.
you just gotta be willing to practice it over and over and over again...
it is possible...
but qualified instructors are safest route
Reply:Yahoo Answers! There really is no other way if you think about it.
Reply:Go to the library i guess!
Reply:move then.
or find a local instructor and school you like, that's more important than what syle it is. If there is a good school and teacher near you but a different art, train with them.
Reply:wasn't that of a name of an 80's pop rock group?
Reply:I'm afraid Lopan is right, you will need an instructor; certain techniques cannot be learned in that manner since you must learn exact placement of the elbows, wrists, arms, legs, to make wing chun work. You can't learn chi sao (sticking hands) from a book or wooden dummy techniques either. But if worse comes to worse, and you have no other choice, purchase a combination of dvd's, video's, and books and observe closely, very closely what is being done and compare everything with each other and with other material that you have or may plan to get since there are also a couple of wing chun styles and placement of the limbs vary slightly from style to style. Take care and I wish you luck in your quest for wing chun. You've chosen a very beautiful and practical martial art.
