i wanna learn a powerful, "hard"/solid martial art. any ideas?

Is wing chun a powerful martial art? does it give you a good physical workout?
Wing chun is an effective martial art if used correctly. It's "hard" although does have soft elements to it. It was developed by a woman so you find it doesn't rely on brute strength. Wing chun is also readily available throughout the world, it is very popular.

Hung Gar is an exellent southern style, also commonly thought of as "hard" but in fact has 50/50 split. Very holistic, you learn many forms in Hung gar where in wing chun you can learn the forms quickly (although take a lifetime to master).

Physical workout depends on what you put into it, Hung gar has alot of Body conditioning.

Remember "soft" doesn't mean low intensity workout, Iron thread, and the snake forms in hung gar are "soft" but internally very intense
Reply:i recon most martial arts are hard workouts it just depends upon the trainer, i been doing chinese kick boxing for almost two years and im a purple belt soon going for brown and the work out we do is hard work. For our warm up we do like 25 pressups, loads of stretching, 5 - 10 mins jogging, shadow boxing for a couple mins, jumping jacks, cruches. lmao its very hard :D
Reply:Powerful? Yes, Wing Chun can be very powerful if trained properly and it can definitely give you a great workout.

As far as the "hard" art that you are looking for, Wing Chun is a softer style. If you want an external or "hard" style, as you put it, you may want to look to Muay Thai or some art along those lines.

I'm not sure how you'd classify an art as "solid" though...

At any rate, I'd recommend trying out a class or two of Wing Chun. Judge for yourself whether it's to your liking. Not one of us on these forums will ever be able to tell you exactly what you're looking for.
Reply:Wing Chun Kuen is very effective and does effectivly provide a solid workout. now depending on whwt you call a workout you may have different ideas on how to workout and keep fit. But as for the martial exponents of wing chun yoiu should study up on it.

Peace, and respect,
